While I believe the term “self-help” is misleading and that we need other humans to do our healing work, education is an important step in understanding ourselves. Literature, podcasts, and articles are also another way we can hear the stories, wisdom, and experiences of others like us. There are so many resources available for neuro, sexual, and gender minorities out there, this is just a little slice of what I’ve read myself and collected over the years.
DISCLAIMER: Research and perspective of these topics is rapidly evolving, resources can quickly become out of date. Please know that there are very strong opinions, broad perspectives, and experiences related to these topics. I am presenting you with resources I’ve found most helpful for me, my colleagues, and my clients. This list does not represent all experiences of all people. As with many resources, quite a few of these present us with inadequate attempts to encompass the experiences of marginalized racial, gender, and sexual minorities. Keep that in mind when consuming ALL media, particularly media coming from systems that have typically been inhabited by and are designed to serve the majority.
